Transgenic‐based solutions for citrus disease management in Argentina

Citrus is a major fruit crop with economic importance worldwide, citriculture historically threatened at times by diverse array of pathogens. As leading producer and exporter, Argentina has been dealing endemic quarantine diseases citrus implementing conventional management strategies. In recent decades, the pursuit pathogen-resistant transgenic explored in country as part long-term sustainable disease strategy. Successful genetically modified organisms (GMOs) were created locally, engineered to resist viruses bacteria for control tristeza, psorosis, canker, huanglongbing citrus. Although Argentine regulatory system accommodated these developments, there also difficulties that demand further recognition analysis. present work, we describe four affecting series GMO-oriented strategies their management. We explore methodologies behind strategies, including transgenic-based approaches, current state regulations, what actions may be taken ensure continuing protection citriculture.
